“La Coqueta’s collections are nostalgic, marrying traditional Spanish aesthetic with our distinct design identity. Children and family have always been a huge part of my life, so creating pieces that will be cherished and passed through generations continue to be an essential element when designing”
La Coqueta was established in 2013 by mother of five, Celia Muñoz. Known as Celia’s “sixth child”, La Coqueta grows with every collection, marrying modern traditionalism with Spanish nostalgia for the future generation of fashionistas.
Synonymous with high-quality materials and craftsmanship, La Coqueta is a globally recognised brand, renowned for practical yet beautiful designs and a strong focus on attention to detail. London is our home, with our range available in our flagship store in Notting Hill, our concession store in the iconic Selfridges and the independent Poppies stores in the US. With the loyal support from our London customers, we were able to set up our eCommerce operations, launching an international online store that delivers La Coqueta to families around the world. Creating luxury children’s clothing from newborn to age 10, La Coqueta strives to represent all ages, lifestyles, and nationalities.
“As a proud Spaniard and designer, I represent the skills and craftsmanship that Spain really excels at. The love and attention to detail that goes into producing Spanish clothing are what make them so special. We take time to produce our clothes and that is something customers around the world over really value."
Heritage is at the heart of La Coqueta, with Celia’s designs developing from her Spanish roots and the traditional clothing she grew up in. Known for rich embroideries and hand smocking, heavy collars, and decorative details, every La Coqueta collection manifests an elaborate yet elegant design. Each garment is “Proudly Made in Spain”, an ethos that is integral to the brand. Every product can be traced back to Spanish family-run ateliers, with age-old skills and methods used in production.
“My fondest memories are those earlier days when I was a young entrepreneur with five children under five. By working in the store, with a playroom at the back for my children, I was able to greet clients and learn about the importance of customer service, highly functional products and exceeding expectations.”
The translation of ‘La Coqueta’ to English is well-groomed, relating to the Spanish culture of self-care and dress. The definition relates to every aspect of the La Coqueta experience, from the clothing, accessories, and in-store experience to the care and packing of our orders. Our online orders come in distinctive red packaging, that has now become synonymous with La Coqueta, including branded tissue paper and professional wrapping.
“In Spain, we like grooming ourselves. This tradition has been passed from mother to daughter and influences how we dress our children. In our case, ‘Coqueta’ means well-groomed, so just like our clothes, the packaging had to reflect the same attention to detail.”
We create clothing for the adventures of childhood, whilst being on an adventure ourselves. The company and collections grow with our customer base, with generations of families remaining faithful to the brand. Many of our versatile styles are unisex, encouraging clients to pass on La Coqueta clothing to younger family and friends.
“I feel there is a need for traditional, timeless fashion for children which also incorporates a chic and contemporary style for our modern world....."
"...I have found this with the Spanish designers I work with and can wholeheartedly say all the collection is ‘Proudly made in Spain’. Our clothing and shoes are beautifully made, functional and hard-wearing. As a mother of five, I know how important it is to find easy-care clothes that stand the test of time, can be passed on to the next baby and still look great.”
“...traditional, timeless fashion for children, that still has a chic and contemporary style...”
Before having children, I originally trained as a psychologist, and then fell into a career in headhunting. Eventually, I craved a change in my professional life, so I went back to university to continue my studies, taking an MSc in Mental Health Studies, but all the while a passion for children’s fashion was growing. I started bringing back Spanish kids’ clothes and accessories for my London friends on my visits home and developed relationships with various designers in Spain. While preparing for the birth of my fifth child in 2013, I thought it was time to follow my passion. "Now or never," I thought to myself and La Coqueta was born - my sixth baby you might say!
Now approaching their teenage years, Celia’s children continue their hands-on involvement with the brand, developing operational, eCommerce and retail skills in every faction of the business. They first showed their enthusiasm and commitment to drive us toward change as a brand, taking it upon themselves to become Climate Justice Ambassadors for Plant For The Planet, spurring our official partnership in 2020.
